Author Topic: why is there a glow when you click on the text of youtube comments on chrome  (Read 976 times)

this has only appeared in the "new" mode

youre selecting the text element

When you click on a comment, you're highlighting the focused comment for easier, more concise reading. It's a part of web design.

Some people have a hard time focusing on specific parts of a sentence in layouts like a comment section, and the highlight allows them to focus on sentences easier.

probably to not get confused in certain text?

or it's another neat feature youtube thought that it was cool, i see nothing wrong with it

so yeah what ike said

eh
seems like it doesnt highlight the entire background, even without my theme

probably useless right now but pretty neat

Some people click and drag on words to highlight them in a paragraph to make sure their focus stays within the sentence. In busier comment sections, these people can be confused and it makes it harder to read specific comments. This is where interactive web design comes into play to help make the website more accessible for everyone.

ohhhhhh
situational but useful

ike you sound like a youtube employee...you telling us something???

ohhhhhh
situational but useful

Yeah. Personally, I used to struggle badly with dyslexia and reading smaller print was borderline impossible because of moving text and jumbled words. The use of the highlighting feature helped me read on a monitor because it kept my focus on the part of the paragraph I wanted to read.

Some people may have different shades of this issue, which is why this particular design was probably added. Web design and accessibility is an interesting topic, one worth looking into if you're ever interested in developing your own web space.

I've made mockup websites before and developed them using HTML before. Never really thought about that kinda stuff because the people normally using it don't have these issues.

So you're telling me the page search isn't situational but useful?

So you're telling me the page search isn't situational but useful?

It's useful for finding things, sure. And it's situational. But it has nothing to do with this topic and isn't useful for youtube.

i wonder how it looks in light theme

It's just a matter of the small little optimizations and accessibility tweaks that developers eventually come to see a need for once the website gets heavier traffic. Through consumer support and survey, small issues like this become more apparent.
