Quote
Batman has been a hero for decades, constantly saving Gotham City from mad men and murderers. But take away the cape and noble purpose and he's actually a terror—someone capable of causing as much damage as he prevents. And seen through the lens of the 21st century, a time when it's understood that vigilante justice is dangerous, Bruce Wayne's actions don't look much more safe or sane than the Joker's. And in his next incarnation, they're not.

For Batman: White Knight, writer-illustrator Sean Murphy (The Wake, Punk Rock Jesus) created a version of Gotham with real, modern-day problems, and then let Batman solve them by making him the villain. How? In the comic mini-series' alternate-reality, it's the Joker—cured of his insanity—who sees that Bruce Wayne is just another part of the city's vicious cycle of crime and sets out to stop him.

"My main goal was to undo the comic tropes while changing Gotham from a comic book city into a real city—a city dealing with everything from Black Lives Matter to the growing wage gap,"

okay but portraying batman as a delusional vigilante rather than hero of gotham is a pretty interesting idea

except for that last line making everything political i think its a good idea
its nice to see the villain vs hero trope spinned on its head every once in a while
especially where the former villain is the reasonable one

This may be true, but he's still the hero in this story.

this could turn out interesting

this could turn out interesting
True, I've never foreseen a more interesting trainwreck

Because why not.
It's a comic, comics have unusual stories covering various themes, topics, art styles and more.
It's no stupider than any other what-if style comic.

If anything the only thing to be annoyed about, as a batman fan, is the suggestion that only in the 21st century has vigilantism been disapproved of. As if that hasn't always been a major theme of Batman.

Well, this is a suicidal move from a business standpoint, but hey, its not my failing comic.

like every dumb idea such as this, equally dumb people will buy it

and by equally dumb i mean more than half of the US population

how is this suicidal?? its not like a lot of people will boycott dc as a whole just because of this one comic

a lot of comic ideas dont end up doing well, this would probably be one of them if they overemphasize the political aspect. as it stands right now though, it sounds like its more a side thing to help set up the idea that batman is the bad guy, not the core focus of the timeline

Well, considering they've tried pushing this poltical agenda before with failing results, I do expect, even with the poltics being on the sideline, that it will fail due to the previous history leaving bad tastes in everyone's mouths.

you mean DC lel
