Author Topic: What Should My Girlfriend's First Video Game Be?  (Read 6168 times)

DOOM 2016, assuming she's indifferent towards gore.

This list:
Super Mario Bros. (this was my first game ever ~2004)
Legend of Zelda (serie).
Super Mario 64.
Megaman.

Ik this list sounds very Nitendo-ish but they are still good games.

The unique thing about this chick instead of most newbies is that she's my girlfriend, so I get to share my tastes with her, and I have no taste for Nintendo stuff.

I believe I've settled on The Wolf Among Us. Hear me out;

The gameplay is incredibly basic (limited controller/keyboard prompts). She really loves fantasy and crime dramas. It's got a load of talking points and decisions. The art style is pretty interesting. She can run it on her phone/tablet/laptop so she can actually take that game home with her and enjoy. It's got a sequel on the way that we can be excited for.

Other contenders which I'll run her through today or another day include Portal 2, Fallout 4, L.A. Noire, Life is Strange and any one of the good Halo games (preferably as her first co-op experience, I don't like playing P2 co-op since newbies usually need a lot of help adjusting to first person controls.).

Keep shooting ideas, though. It's fascinating what everybody thinks is appropriate to get a newbie started on.

the first 3 crash bandicoot games

The Adventures of McJobles

anyway portal 2 is probably the way to go
especially if you've researched this wtf

Yeah, and then I sold it to a friend about a month ago.

I wanted to test it out as a portable console that could play AAA titles (proper ports, not just awful mobile versions like what the DS and PSP usually received), and the limited selection of (expensive) games, weak-ish battery life and missing functionality (use a phone app for communications? WTF?) meant it wasn't for me.
