to those who support the skinny repeal bill: this bill hurts literally everybody, and i do mean everybody.
why? because it removes the individual mandate, which sounds like a good thing: no more being forced to have health insurance, that's awesome, right?
well for the people who want to not pay for other people, this bill does not repeal the no rejection of people with preexisting conditions clause, which is the main reason your premiums have gone up as the insurance companies are forced to take in sick people without being forced to drive up premiums for those specific people. the reason the individual mandate was put in place was so that more healthy people would have insurance, therefore driving costs down as there are more healthy people to offset this additional cost insurers have when dealing with sick people.
so now people aren't forced to have health insurance, and when they drop their plans for nothing else your premiums will go up, as the healthy young people who had to sign up because of the individual mandate are no longer forced to, and since there are not as many healthy people on the plan offsetting the sick people, driving premium costs up as the healthy:sick ratio grows closer. this is why it is bad.
however, the bill does make it far easier for states to waive federal requirements that health insurance plans provide consumers with a minimum set of benefits like maternity care and prescription drugs. which would give the illusion that it is cheaper, but ultimately it's more expensive in the long run, because you know, paying full price for your medication.
whether you support or hate obamacare, this repeal bill is loving horrible and only serves to fulfill an agenda, which is to pass an actual healthcare bill through forcing the democrats to vote yes, because obamacare lite is better than basically nothing, which is what this bill ends up being: nothing.
