no. every show should appeal to ME

honestly if it doesn't appeal to lord tony it should be removed entirely

its probably because their demographic isn't 20 year olds.
It wasn't for 20 year olds back then either, it's that the more the time passes, the more people are being sensitive over anything.

you're right, it was for 5 year olds who are now 20 year olds. there's something called societal norms and trends and spoiler alert, they tend to change. the 5 year old demographic back then probably liked something different than the 5 year old demographic today

whatever they're doing, their business model is successful. people like us just think it isn't because we're extremely jaded, critical and nostalgia blinded and we can't conceive of the idea of the new generation liking anything different than what we liked. their staff team isn't doing anything wrong, they aren't doing anything wrong. their entire network is for 2017 kids, not 1999 kids, so adults need to stop acting baffled and surprised when their business model and show schedule no longer fit their needs

there's always adult swim and comedy central, whose target audience is 16-24 year old deadbeats like us. but im sure there's going to be a ton of complaints in 20 years from now when their immature adult comedy is no longer suited for the on-the-go 50 year old undergoing a midlife crCIA

It's not about nostalgia, it's about ideology, CN could've easily air the original PPG show just fine, but they don't because nowadays we live in a society which tries to point out anything to make an excuse for social justice, which just makes things worse and tries to create problems over nothing, and in the end, with such watered down and "social friendly" content aired on TV it will just make our children even more sensitive and divided so to speak, for example the original powerpuff girls had a great sense of "being a criminal is bad and they must be punished", the reboot barely shows any of that (I would point out more examples but I want to avoid a 10+ page discussion over this) if that's the path we're going, I'm worried about what's going to be in the future generations.

but that's you talking, you don't really represent the current child demographic well. also this whole 'tv is ruining our children!' argument has been fought before on literally every level in every time period. back when powerpuff girls and samurai jack used to air, parents would literally boycott cartoon network, saying that those shows were too violent and were a bad influence on children. your argument is probably the less credible and a complete role reversal.

i mean, cmon. 'this show is making our children too sensitive'? children are literally the most sensitive demographic on earth, if anything exposing them to less violence is objectively better than more violence. the morals you want to be teaching kids are respect towards other people and helpfulness/benevolence, not libertarian vigilante justice like samurai jack or powerpuff girls (though ppg is definitely an empowering show for female audiences)

either way both of our arguments are made moot by the fact that cartoon network is still profiting vastly off of their business model, so your personal grievances aren't really that valid considering the fact that cartoon network is one of the most viewed channels. if their stocks and viewership dropped significantly then the whole 'teen titans go needs to go' chant would be more valid than ever

pretty sure the people who go on r/cringe and use the word "triggered" non stop are the same people who watch these shows soooo

The PPG show has little girls twerking and there is a character in the show who is modeled after one the artists who works on the show and both he and Blossom are madly in love with each other. The original show is considered better because A.) It doesn't have twerking girls nor child enthusiasm (except that one episode where a geek tries to take the girls captive for his sick collection) and.B.) The core of the show was that our main heroines were cute little innocent girls who beat the crap out of people.

man why does this thread even exist, we're all adults so we can't have an opinion on the objective quality of children's television, that's just not our demographic

The only reason this is true is because they aren't even airing the original PPG right now, they're only airing the new stuff so OFC "the investors and the demographic are gonna like it". I mean, you do realize the original show had hand-painted backgrounds, a passionate Craig McCracken/Genndy Tartakovsky duo and no twerking children/borderline romantic self-inserts, right? I'm pretty sure that makes it objectively better.

I've always maintained that the minute CN decides to pull its head out of its own ass and starts to air OG PPG alongside new PPG (like they're doing now) is the minute you'll see a shift away from the merchandise-driven, animation-error-laden borefest that is the new PPG towards the old-school cartoon. Kids are not dumb. What's airing right now is mindless bullstuff, and your "kids change from generation to generation" shtick doesn't cover mindless bullstuff.

I mean, FFS, the whole show is about the PPG in high school. Forget for a second that the school subplot is literally the most done-to-death plot structure next to "the government is secretly evil" and realize that universally kids think school is boring and that the PPG are loving superheroes. They could've capitalized on the thing that kids would like and they didn't.
