Author Topic: Blogland: I almost get the nerve to shoot some tweaker  (Read 3000 times)

I don't normally write blogland stuff because most of my life is uninteresting (relatively), but this just happened and I'd like to vent this cuz I'm a bit nervous.

Okay so it's like 10PM CST and I'm playing Stellaris with a friend, when we get a buzz at our door (I live in a secured apartment building). I go to see who it is, but no one answered and I go back to my computer. 30 Seconds later my mom calls me on me to check out the hallway because some forget-stick is constantly plowing into walls and making noise.

I go out there and see this 5'9"-10" spick drunkardly walking around the hallway, but focused solely on the door down the hall from me. I ask him what or who he's looking for and he starts trying to be discrete about it, saying "supplies" or "good stuff" and smiling and saying it's all cool. I tell him if he's looking for weed or drugs or some stuff, I don't care, just do it somewhere else.

Just to be safe, I get my rifle and load it.

I go back to my computer, only to have to go to the hallway again because he was knocking loudly on someones door for a solid 30 seconds. Annoying af. I tell him people are trying to sleep, it's late at night, and if he doesn't need to be here, get going, cuz I've never seen you around here. He takes it as a threat and starts trying to intimidate me. Starts threatening me, trying to get me to flinch, etc. All that stupid stuff "tough guys" try to do. Real intimidating smh. I just keep telling him to get lost, so he doesn't get himself into trouble or piss other people off. In the mean time I get my mom to call the cops. He stares at me for 10 seconds eye-to-eye and says that he'll remember me and find my ass later.

At one point while he's threatening me, he reaches into the back of his waistband, and I assume for my safety and my mom's, that he has a gun. He scatters quickly knowing the police are called. And that's that. During the second portion of this event, I was contemplating getting my rifle and either plugging a .303-sized hole through his chest, or incapacitating him so the police could actually bag him.

In hind-sight, I don't know which way would've been better. Shooting him or incapacitating him, or doing what I did by "talking him down." I kind of wanted to shoot him simply because I don't like tweaker-friends and he's threatening to harm me.

i assume you live in an apartment building right? its a good thing you didn't shoot him because you'd probably do time for murder

sounds like it was well-handled by, y'know, not shooting him
if he was threatening you, i hope you gave his description to the police

As a gun owner you should be more careful. Honestly ignoring the guy and calling the cops first hand for suspicious activity would've saved you the expense of interacting with the guy. Who knows, maybe he won't forget you. Can never be too cautious these days.

Oh yeah, forget yeah I gave them a description. But cops in my town don't do a great job of remembering stuff.

Bravado got the best of me here I suppose, but I like to think I'm a relaxed individual, just wanted to make sure he wasn't going to get himself into trouble, not that I care anymore.

"spick"
"almost got the nerve to shoot some tweaker"
"I was contemplating getting my rifle"

riiiight

yeah shooting him would definitely count as murder

he'd have to either be in your house or attack you to make it ok for you to shoot him

Are you dumb? Do you realize this was written after the incident?

Maybe, I live in a stand-your-ground state and he was threatening to hurt me.

what kind of rifle?
SMLE MKIII

thats your word against a hypothetical dead guy's

He was drunk.

He was drunk.
i think hes saying that if the police came and saw that you shot a guy there would be no proof that he tried to attack you

Regardless my word would outweigh whatever credibility he had, shot or not. He was drunk and looking for drugs.

Not saying that's a good thing tho, not trying to make myself look like someone who looking to shoot someone willy-nilly. It was heated and I don't like being threatened, and I don't want to risk him pulling a weapon on me, as I said in the OP he reached for his waistband at one point like he was going to pull a weapon.

This. You sorta escalated the situation. If he was there in search of drugs, or carrying drugs, or was actually drunk (you say he drunkardly walked down the hall), and didn't live there, he'd either forget off or get carted off when the police arrived. He's on what I presume is private property late at night yeah? Why do all the gun loading and stuff talking, putting yourself in danger, when you could call the cops and chill safely??

There would have never been a chance for him to pull a weapon on you if you simply didn't engage with the drunk fool. He basically pulled you down to his level of idiocy.
