The writers for South Park said about a month ago that they wanted to move more away from politics in the show do to how polarized the political landscape is right now. I guess they started making political jokes again idfk I don't watch South Park.

the creators of south park not moving away from politics. for one, they've said that they have to cater to the fact that Garrison is president, but it's not their focus. two, they've always made political jokes, but only recently did they have entire seasons centered around being satirical of our current political landscape.
they're going back to their roots in the sense that they're not making one big, continuous, season-spanning story that ends with a nice cherry on top and a moral lesson. they're going back to kids being kids.
