Author Topic: why is puerto rico not getting any help?  (Read 4197 times)

Puerto Rico doesn't want to be independent, they voted to become a state in the spring.

not to mention that the vote was BEFORE they got desolated by hurricanes, so they're probably even less interested in independence at this point

look at that it's almost like Annoying Orange cares about people in need or something
technically it seems like elaine duke was the one to pull the trigger on it at the request of some congressmen but i don't see why Annoying Orange wouldn't have done the same so I'll put it in the "Annoying Orange did good" pile anyways

When you're easily impressed by someone doing a basic act of human decency

Puerto Rico has received relief materials. They just don't have the equipment nor infrastructure available to effectively distribute it.

They're also in $70 billion USD of debt due to stuffty government mismanagement, corruption, and inability to pay for social programs (more than 60% of PR receives medicare/medicaid which puts a huge drain on the territory). They want daddy America to pay for their debt crCIA.

We haven't made things much better for them considering they're still not a state

We don't have a moral obligation to make them a state. The strongest incentive for Puerto Rico to become a state is for PR because it would be an easier solution to their debt crCIA. There is little incentive for statehood on the Federal side of things. Maybe slightly more tax revenue that's offset tenfold by the debt that needs to be paid.

Don't talk stuff about processes you don't fully grasp. You can't just make a territory a state overnight.

That's not my point, they should've been made a state already

We have a moral obligation because their citizens don't have the same voting rights as us and yet more people live there than around 20 other US states.

Buddy there's a million forgeten things we should be doing that you aren't in here on your high horse about. Give it a rest, aye?
