i tried to copy the 3dmm disk files to the install folder from the iso but that pretty much broke movie playback soooooo

Use daemon tools lite to mount the iso to a virtual drive and install it from there. Worked 100% for me.

i would make a custom 3dmm movie since i got it working now, but i dont know how to convert a model to a 3dmm file, or how to make a custom one in the first place
