Japan wouldn't have surrendered after we dropped the bomb if Russia wasn't already invading them
iirc this

during the later years of the war, the allied powers IE US and Britain managed to convince stalin to join the war against the japanese within a few months of the defeat of national socialist germany, while giving the japanese foreign ministry the impression that the soviet union would act as a peace mediator and uphold a non-aggression pact the two have held for some time. by the time the bombs dropped, the soviet union issued a declaration of war against the japanese. the japanese iirc still held the belief that even with the bombs, they could inflict a staggering loss to the US that it would bring them to the negotiating table but when the soviets entered the fray, they lost all hope of the russians being peace mediators and thus finally capitulated.

the backlash by some of the japanese forces was immensely harsh, with a group of hard-liners dedicated to continuing the war to the last man actually launching an attempted coup d'etat on the imperial palace before they were stopped by the rest of the army.
i think even the japanese war ministry was deadlocked on whether or not to continue the war until the emperor himself stepped in.

sorry for acting like an armchair historian, but just wanted to put what i've read in this
