Author Topic: Wanting to switch to an Intel i7, need help finding one.  (Read 1205 times)

So, this is gonna be a bit tough.
I am going to talk to my brother soon about getting a better CPU, and before I do that, I want to find one first. I am looking for any one under $400, has 4 cores, and is compatible with the LGA 1150 CPU socket. Anyone know any sites that sell them brand new in that range? I checked Amazon and eBay but I only found either used or incompatible (socket-wise) CPU.

TL;DR:idk why you wouldn't just read it.

newegg might be worth looking at

http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket_1150_LGA1150_H3.html

all of the i7s with that socket seem to be 4 cores 8 threads

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369

this is the last one, under 400 4.0ghz, K edition is ready to clock

Why does that cost so much more than the i7 7700k

i think most of the 1150 socket cpu are out of manufacturing, and the remaining new cpus for that socket rise in price as people look to upgrade their systems without upgrading mobos

fyi CPUs don't really age unless they're heavily overclocked, so you're pretty safe buying used. You can get pretty good deals on eBay or Craigslist.

Oh no.
Im getting advice from my current CPU
a pentium 3250 'д'

Well, I guess you got a point there.

he wants to get replaced.. take him out.... he needs a new motherboard

arg
mine is perfect just the way it is.. *sniffle*
I mean, it can only hold 2 cards of ram.....

Gonna talk to my brother about it tomorrow, hope I can convince him.

unless you're on a budget, I think it'd always be better to upgrade as much stuff as you could

just so you don't get caught in a fix where you have to look for configurations that aren't being made anymore

If you want a i7. Save up and get the latest i7 8700-8700k and get a z370 motherboard. You probably wouldn't upgrade in a couple of years anyways so the last chip of the platform wouldn't forget you up at all.

Well I can't update my motherboard right now, it would be a pain in the ass because my power supply has giant ass cables that are all messed up in the computer case. I'm just gonna look for an lga-1150 compatible i7, and if I can't convince my brother, then so be it.

Did some quick searches, and found a couple of auctions:

That'd set him back more than $500 when you count the CPU, 8 gigs of RAM and motherboard. That's far more than getting a used 4770 or 4790 costs. Even if you get the cheaper i5-8400 you're still going to be around $400, and that's not even taking the stock issues into consideration.
