Author Topic: My loving laptop was stolen on my birthday  (Read 1410 times)

So yeah quick vent

Having dinner for birthday with the girlfriend and parents. Come back to the car, window smashed, bag stolen. Bag had my laptop with lots all of my wip addons on it but not much else since that's all in dropbox. 250 dollar watch my gf bought me for my birthday was in the bag (literally only that day and never again since I had just gotten it for my birthday and still had to be made to fit at the goldsmith). Car insurance doesn't cover because apparantly you need a household effects insurance for that which I don't have because I don't own a loving house. Was literally in the middle of the city at 7pm right next to a main road. Also lost my gaming mouse and another 60 dollar shaving set I got as a gift. I hope the guy who stole it loving dies the most horrible death imaginable because this pretty much ruined my 21st birthday. Gf is incredibly upset as she worked a forgetton for that watch. Bag wasn't even in sight they just smahsed the window, opened the door and searched the entire car. I also have a test tomorrow for which I need the laptop so I'm gonna fail that (profs don't give a stuff, already emailed).

So yeah forget this birthday forget me forget forget forget

sorry to hear that man :( wish i could send you something

I'm hitting myself over the head so loving hard because I was REALLY doubting if I should take the bag with me even though it was pouring (it was not a waterproof bag so I'd risk damanging my laptop; my previous laptop died from water damage while in another bag) (well it didn't really die it just forgeted the screen forever).

They smashed that tiny little window and reached in to open the door, luckily the car is my mom's lease car so we don't have to pay for the window replacement. I really have no clue what to do as I can't afford a new laptop and really need one for college (like I said yay test I'm gonna fail). Filed police report but I really doubt anything will come out of that.

do you have windows 10? if you have "find my device" enabled you may be able to find it. if you have the model and (better) serial number of the laptop that can really help as well.
but yea, that really sucks. if someone stole my really expensive devices with all my stuff on them i'd be feeling like you are right now and i'd go through the 5 stages of grief.

Look on the bright side- that $1500 of assets is probably gunna feed someone's family of six for the next few months

Tying that, but it says the device is offline. They can't log in to my microsoft account so I doubt that will work (it was off when stolen).

Also yeah I got the serial and model.

EDIT: did some digging and found the actual original box and manuals to go with the laptop too, including serial.

Yeah that's forgeted up, I really hope you get it back

My gf literally worked minimum wage to buy me a 250 dollar watch I am incredibly sad/mad to lose it. I wouldn't give 2 stuffs if I bought the same watch for myself for the same price.

I don't think that comic fully applies to this situation since, as TAG just stated, a lot of the value that was stolen was sentimental or just specific to him (ie. the files on his computer).

The thief probably just wants to sell the stuff to make a quick buck anyway. And sure, maybe they guy needs the money to not starve, but that still doesn't justify theft.

I really hope you get your stuff back TAG. Is terrible that this happened to you. :(

One the one hand I want to push the button to brick the laptop. On the other hand, if I do that he'll probably toss it in the bin.

Also in my bag were 2 birthday cards from my inlaws and gf congratulating me so maybe (maybe I'm like 99% it's not gonna happen but maybe) whoever stole it sees that and dumps it somewhere to be found. Though since I live in Europe a dumped bag will probably be destroyed in a controlled detonation by EOD due to terrorist scare.

EDIT: also is it just me or is the renault clio the only car that exists that doesn't also lock the doors from the inside when it's locked with the key not in the ignition? I mean ffs my old 1996 passat used to do that sheesh.

guy needs the money to not starve
That isn't a thing in our dutch socialist utopia where people that work hard (i.e. me) have to pay about 45% income tax to support jobless/homeless people. Literally existing in the netherlands while being jobless gets you about €1000 a month and your rent is 50 to 75% paid for you so you get like 800 dollars to spend on food and stuff.

It's just handicapped ass asylum seekers that want to buy loving weed or cocaine or whatever.

That sucks dude. I hope that idiot thief gets a taste of his own medicine.

Also, happy Birthday.
