1. be lighter (best option)
2. increase weight dispersion across the ice - this doesn't just mean snow shoes though because in this case we're trying to disperse it across a single, continuous structure (the ice sheet above the water below) - as opposed to mud or snow, where it's just a matter of not falling straight in because there's no structure. to increase weight dispersion, you'll need some rediculous stuff like mega-long skis
