Author Topic: how to make stereo mix stop recording my mic?  (Read 1183 times)

so i have a condenser microphone that's NEWEER brand and i got it hooked up since november, but when i try to use stereo mix when im recording audacity or when i look at the recorded devices all it's doing is recording my studio mic. when i check google it only tells me how to use stereo mix and all and it won't record what i'm playing with  my corsair void headphones.

is there a way to change stereo mix into recording what i play in the desktop instead of what i say in my mic?

make sure that stereo mix is set as your default recording device in the windows sound panel. audacity shouldnt be picking up anything else if you've set it as default.

it's set on default device and it's not playing back this song that i'm playing just for an example

Try right-clicking on the microphone and disabling it.

oh yeah for some reason you need to have something connected to the main headphone jack on pc. you can literally use a headphone cable thats not even connected to anything and it'll work. I remember having to set the "realtek high definition audio" device as my default playback device for it to work. i didnt figure out a way around this.

well uh...this headphone is usb only if that even matters but i'll try

try right-clicking stereo and selecting 'use as default device/use as primary communications device'. on mobile so wording might be a bit off

also make sure you have realtek hd audio installed. a lot of headphones/speakers/mics wont work properly without it.

yeah i have sound manager if that's what you mean

keep in mind you cant set it as default unless something is plugged into your PCs audio jack. I had to grab an old pair of earphones just so stereo mix could pickup my windows sounds.

you mean this right

no, go on your sound control panel and look for this:

yours should be plugged in obviously

again, you can't actually hear anything through your normal headphones when this is default. I have no idea why stereo mix needs it to work.

yep. that as default playback device, then go to recording and set the stereo mix as the default device.

huh what do you know it works

stereo mix will still record my mic but i had to press the button to turn it off. looks like im gonna have to be using the speakers and the button more if i'm gonna have to record sounds lol.

thanks a lot for the help.
