Residents and visitors in Hawaii Saturday received a missile warning alert in error after an employee pushed a “wrong button” during a change of shift, the state’s governor said, and the human error created a panic on social media.

The alert read in all capital letters: “Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.”

Michael Kucharek, spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado, said NORAD and the U.S. Northern Command are still trying to verify what happened in Hawaii — but that "NORAD did not see anything that indicated any sort of threat" to the island.

but yeah, i heard that some old guy was in charge of the system at that time and pushed the wrong button. i assume that when i got that alarm on my phone, some new guy was in charge of the system. that's not the case i guess.

All the government statements I've seen said they were going to counsel the employee responsible so this doesn't happen again, not that they were fired.

Sounds plausible but I'm going to basically go with this...

Lost was actually based on one of the Hawaiian islands and the events that unfolded somewhere between 2015-2020 because JJ Abrams traveled to the future back in 2000 to kill Steve jobs and rig our next election

I'm still working out the details but that's a vague outline.
