I see a lot of people posting about the 10 cents they'd be losing on revenue but it's definitely a lot deeper than that.
If you're not making enough money, well, start a Patreon. That part doesn't change. People were already doing this.
The real issue is that no one's going to find you. If you're not a partner, they have no reason to promote you. Your content is never going to be recommended. And your video will likely show up lower on search results. Because chances are, they're more likely to show things that have been known to make them more money. Because remember, the ads are what makes Youtube itself the money.
So, going on from here? It looks like the small content creators need to rely on their own tools, promoting their own work across various sites. That's probably how people got big in the first place, anyway.
