Author Topic: First Finished Build - A Small House  (Read 4318 times)

adding to crazysalt's assery. it's good that at least someone posts in the gallery because it's like a ghost town here

keep it up op, I think this house looks dope for a first one. reminds me a lot of myself

i still remember my first finished buil- oh wait

either way i do think this is pretty neat but it could use a few more props

For a first, I think you really showed your understanding of brick count conservation! Typically I see first builds use a lot of 1x1x5s and such instead of the bigger bricks because, y'know, the mindset is more likely "let's just fill it up as quickly as I can" than "how efficient can I be". Like, for example, the interior walls are nice and large, and the exterior uses the brick pattern fairly well. Good work!

I actually never thought of the brick count while I was making this, but it is good to know about such a thing just in case. I can understand why it's important, as servers that have a lot of addons already brings loading times to a crawl for me. What usually helps me along is thinking of how it would really work as a real lego set. I should try to experiment more with non-default/"classic" bricks looking back at it. What would be some good essential tools to help me along the way to speed building up as well?

hate myself for going through this but:

for those brick patterns, 1x1x5s would be 'more efficient'

cool build btw

You're using 1x2s when op used 2x4s.
A 2x4, assuming you specifically want that 2 stud depth, is more efficient than 1x1x5s.
It takes 5 2x4s to fill the same space as 8 1x1x5s.

I did say this in the other post but I'll clarify just in case, I meant on the interior walls, not the exterior walls

The exterior walls are fine in that the intention is a brick laid pattern (stretcher bond I believe it's called), you sacrifice efficiency for visual effect I believe (Although I suppose the best way to build is to consider both). As far as I know you can't possibly achieve a brick laid pattern with 1x1x5s. Err...

Reminds me of pit of 100 trials hallways.
