From what I can gather from definitions on the internet, a hole is an opening through an object or area. A straw has two openings on opposite ends of the cylinder. Therefore,  a straw hast two holes.

This is a joke right?

no lol, if a straw is two holes what would you call something with one hole
the hole is the space in between the two openings. a torus has one hole

Looks like I may have been wrong. Upon further inspection, a straw is described as a tube. In an official definition, a tube is a cylinder with a hollow area inside it. Since a hole is described as the hollow part of an object, and the official definitions only describe a hollow area and not hollow areas, the straw has only one hole.

ok but look here is where my confusion comes from

this is a Y-straw, clearly it's got three holes, no one can question that

but this is another straw quite like the y-straw, just at a different angle

how many holes does this straw have? it's got the same structure as the one above, so it should still be 3, right?
but two of the holes are straight, meaning that if you remove the other hole, you're left with...

a normal straw.

going by simple math, we removed one hole from a 3-hole straw, so the number of holes is 3-1=2

a straw has two holes?

for further confusion, here is a stufftyflute:

how many holes does it have? they're all connected to the same interior space, so is it just one hole?
