Author Topic: tvp is loving horrible (solution too)  (Read 2552 times)

textured vegetable protein is the worst thing ever invented and should be outlawed
pictured: garbage

for the uninitiated, this is an ingredient in alot of frozen meals. if you've ever been to school and had chicken at their cafeteria, you might notice that it tastes and feels absolutely appalling. that's because it's meat slurry with tvp pumped into it.
this stuff is really common in alot of frozen meals and im pretty sure its the reason they get such a bad rep: because they have the texture of a soggy hankerchief due to all the tvp dumped into it.
if you buy some food and it says "textured vegetable protein" in the ingredients, get a refund because its no good. the only time it's good is in chili and thats only because the meat in it is in chunks instead of a slab so you don't actually feel the texture of the meat
this is what meat looks like after you put tvp in it

also solution in meat is really bad too
sometimes if you buy really cheap meat (or patties molded into a meat shape) it'll say "up to [] percent solution" or something like that. that "solution" is literally just water injected into the meat to make it look bigger and better. it's like cheap restaurants putting an insane amount of breading on their food: it can make a microscopic speck of meat look like a big ol nugget. when you thaw meat with solution in it, it basically falls apart, and if you thaw out a patty, it becomes a disgusting slurry.

tl;dr tvp is the reason school lunches are inedible

/discuss

the worse part is that it's made out of SOY

remember when you eat school lunches you are actually ingesting soy

mechanically separated mystery meat and soy

it's freeze pressed soy, mostly protein, high in calcium, iron and zinc

it's worst offense is the bland taste on it's own, but it's actually pretty good when well prepared and seasoned.

b but its healthy for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i never was fond of school lunches. I really only enjoyed like 3 things; that was the bread rolls, the mashed potatoes with gravy, and the Salisbury steaks.

chicken isnt like that at my school but its like whiteout on the inside
like mcdonalds whiteout level

I'm glad I only ever brought lunches from home.
But I remember that my middle school had chicken nuggets that would bounce like rubber bullets. They were more fun to throw than to eat.

We never really bring our own food to school since everyone gets it free and its p good. In my old school (was there for 9years) The food was okayish but sometimes just horrible. Now that I changed schools the food here is loving good. Its almost like eating at home. Sometimes there is something I won't eat but its mostly just me being picky.

Yeah, here in the states you have to pay for lunch and it's a step down or two from prison food.
It's mostly microwaved stuff, pre-frozen. Ive seen a few indescribable pastes come out of public school lunchrooms.

The only way to bypass it is to go to a technical highschool where the culinary students make the lunches, or bring your own food.

Yeah dude I was in a baking program at a career technical school and we worked with the culinary class and the food there was 1000x better than anything I'd ever had at my high school
