So basically you'd be dumb as stuff but you'd build a mean birdhouse
dumb as stuff with a dope ass bird house and disposable income.
I don't see anything wrong with this, you're a human with a culture and a history. If we raised a generation to be ignorant of the past, we'd end up with a bunch of little Henry the 8ths running around killing their wives. I know it's not immediately useful information but it still valuable.
but that wouldn't happen. if Annoying Orange executed his wife right the forget now and streamed it live on twitch he'd probably be arrested on spot.

It's almost like we've raised a generation to learn from the mistakes of our predecessors

and yet there is still racism against colored people. not really

common sense is a thing.

alkatjo you have some valid points about high school being not useful. however you shouldnt dismiss it in general - at this point its well known high school is just preparation for college. if you never intend on going to college, loving off in high school to learn trade skills is a way to go about life.

and dont dismiss the value of seemingly irrelevant information. learning history and learning literature helps you understand the world in general. imagine if someone's only education about world war 2 came from neo national socialist internet blogs - without general knowledge, people are pretty easy to push into controversial views because they lack the knowledge of what has happened before.

the point of history classes isnt to memorize the information (though unfortunately thats how many teachers teach it). its about learning the ideas and things that people have thought about before, and the outcomes of their actions that was a result of their ideas. aka teaching common sense through past events.

this is probably what it boils down to. I'm still pro school don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we should pull a °F 451 and burn all knowledge to the ground (although you may get the impression). But you can't deny that today's school is a lot different from yesterday's school. We're not focusing on future preparation as much as we should be and that's the point that worries me. I see a lot of my peers working at low paying jobs because they don't know what to do or where to go.

having a high-school degree at minimum guarantees that you won't end up bottom rung

that's why it's important, yeah the system could stand to change but deal with what you're given and not what you want

theres been a lot of proposals for schools n stuff but in regards to problems in high school: it boils down to needing better teachers. teachers that care about their students, know what they need to teach and how, showing students what they can do for themselves, etc. unfortunately being a teacher in this country is looked down upon, and coupled with subpar paychecks, theres not much incentive to pursue a teaching career outside of colleges.

as for schools that actually prepare students for a job: theres quite a few vocational schools funded by local governments and such, at least in california. the one in my hometown teaches things from nursing to car decaling to graphic design. support similar stuff in your local area :)

I'm sure it would assist in preventing that but to say it guarantees it would be wrong

why, of course i would ruin my academic success to yell about how a school got shot up in a country with the most shootings every year instead of doing something about it like plan on a career in law enforcement!

yea man I'd yap about that stuff all day man you have no idea brother i would take a whole wad a dip n chew that stuff n shoot a loada bullets enta that there child enthusiast like god damn that child touchin forget eva touch my child I'd butter than man up n rape him teach that feet forgeter lesson by god #mudjug

False
maybe if you appreciated school for what it is you'd know that being glad people get shot is wrong
