Author Topic: [NEWS] Couple told their 10-year-old he had cancer; extorted through gofundme  (Read 1997 times)

An upstate New York couple was arrested after a four-month police investigation revealed they allegedly duped kindhearted people out of thousands of dollars by creating a GoFundMe page asking for donations to help pay medical bills for a child they falsely claimed had cancer, officials said.

Martin and Jolene LaFrance, both 35, of Port Byron, New York, were arrested on felony fraud charges and endangering the welfare of a child, said Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould.

The worst part about this is that the kid thought that he was loving dying for months.

lol that explains a lot

Imagine being distressed for like months thinking you're going to die and basically coming to terms with your own mortality and then learning you're not even gunna die. its like, coming back from the dead literally. the child will probably have PTSD but he'll probably appreciate life a lot more than he did before this happened. one day when he's faced with his ACTUAL mortality it'll probably be easier for him to cope with it

im pretty jealous

Okay but honestly I don't think I would ever speak to my parents again. Currently the parents still have custody so they could be trying to warp this kid's mind even more. e.g. "you were miraculuously healed!" "don't ask why you never get to talk to or speak with your favorite uncle again" "we're keeping you homeschooled from now on so you don't get cancer again"

I hope that they can get the kid as far away from the parents as possible.

do you have any evidence for why anyone fould thought anotas
because children dont have existential crises. its not something you can just have at that age unless your entire family was killed in an airstrike or something
