because only working 8 years profesionally teaches discipline and deadlines

They say their art is stuff because they want people to feel bad for them and say "aww don't worry bud ur art is awesome"

way too much semantic arguing in here

uh yea. thats the whole point of working in a professional setting. its called professionalism for a reason. if the real world selected people based on skill it would collapse

think real hard about this

And then when you hire Person A and he turns out to be super lazy and procrastinates and overrides all your art directions and does his own thing you'll know which choice you should've gone with

Sounds like you had a bad time screening the artist, and controlling your own project. I’ll admit that, yes, people who’ve gone through the ringer certainly are more work oriented, but that isn’t a guarantee. It’s an equally terrible generalization.

And again, there are people that get by professionally, but doesn’t mean that they are the best option. Have you literally ever been burned by any service you paid for? People get burned by things objective as plumbing or electrical, and people end up fixing it themselves.

no he obviously has no actual experience

People who lack skill in a professional setting are usually fired. People who lack professionalism in a professional setting are also fired. If i were to choose a freelance artist who worked for Disney for the last 10 years its most likely that they'll be both skilled and professional, considering they weren't fired. If not, its a sign that Disney sucks at screening their employees.

The only time i've ever been burned by a paid service is when i chose someone who wasn't as qualified to save money.

disney doesnt fire they hire artists per contract per movie but anyway why are you completely arguing about something else now

Disney also has permanent full time staff members. Obviously you're talking about something completely different

only full time disney artists are real artists -thegoodperry

feel free to strawman all of my arguments hootaloo.  i dont mind

Work ethic also doesn’t have to come from the field you work in either. That “hobbyist” artist might be the most diligent worker from experience in their 9-5. Theres also self-discipline, which I would highly covet in an artist.

I could bring up multiple examples of people who bought into luthiers, expecting great work because their previous portfolio showed that they would be a great candidate, only to have work done atrociously, or just not done at all (stealing thousands and thousands of dollars). Meanwhile, there are “hobbyist” luthiers doing work better than even seasoned craftsmen.

Look up Invictus Guitars, ViK guitars, Bernie Rico Jr.

i just like sticking to the original topic youve seemed to have forfeited
