I would assume that the ratio of awkward furries to not awkward probably corresponds roughly to people in all other groups.

Yes and no.

Furries (just like most people of a certain race, minority, religion, etc) CAN just keep what they do with themselves and others, but around half of the current furries like to spam their stuff on as many places as they can. If furries would stop posting this, then us and the furries would co-exist.
