it depends. The rent is more affordable in Queens and barely affordable in Harlem. In those places you can find a room for rent as low as $700. In the rest of Brooklyn it's more like 1000 and up, and Manhattan is minimum 2000.

Commuting from Central Brooklyn (prospect Park/Flatbush) to Central Park takes around 30 minutes as a baseline which isn't too bad, and there's two major terminals (Atlantic center and times square) that every train goes to and are convenient for transfer. Brooklyn to Harlem could take around 45-60 minutes because the red line runs through there and red trains are the slowest line

Queens has insanely low rent and I've found a 3 bedroom once for $500 but the downside is that there's like two train lines that go through the whole borough and Queens to Manhattan is an hour and a half commute

If you have the option to live outside NYC take it because the rent and all food is unreasonably expensive lol

my secondary option is living in tokyo because their housing is ridiculously cheap a few miles out. but forget that im not living with my people lol

I have no standards so the moment I have like $7000 saved up I'm moving to Wyoming or Ohio for the cheap ass rent

im just saying theres a big difference between "i know people that were robbed and its common" and "someone lost almost a million dollars in personal belongings, as well as getting their ass beat"

ah yes because you of all people would certainly know better than the man living in brooklyn

I'm sorry but $300 a month for one room + utilities is a forgetin steal. Like I make $2000 a month already so that minus rent and food and other costs means I'd have 1500 of disposable income every month. Do that for 10 years and boom already enough to start a lease on a home
