Author Topic: Should runescape get rid of membership and make it free to play?  (Read 2145 times)

It's no surprise that runescape is dying lol.

But they just recently added microtransactions and you can buy keys to get rewards and other bullstuff.

So on top of paying a monthly fee to play you're now bombarded with microtransactions.

But runescape makes a stuffLOAD on microtransactions. There are youtubers who pay 13,000 dollars just to see if they can max level 99 in all skills in one day.

Most MMOs are F2P because of microtransactions, maybe runescape should just stick with micros and make the entire game f2p.

There are youtubers who pay 13,000 dollars just to see if they can max level 99 in all skills in one day.
source?

not asking you tell me to get a source for you

So I specifically said youtubers are spending 13,000 dollars in keys.

So you know where the source is coming from. You know youtube has a search function. You know are capable of finding it yourself.

But in reality you're only asking for a "source" from me because you know it's a hot button issue and you're trying to loving start stuff and you think I am this handicapped to not know what you are up to.

So you know where the source is coming from. You know youtube has a search function. You know are capable of finding it yourself.
absolutely predictable

there is actually 0 ways runescape could actually run without membership

you are asking for a free game with massive hosting and bandwith cost

Jagex makes money off runescape in a multiple amount of ways now.

You can buy bonds.

You can buy keys.

You can buy Runecoins for cosmetic rewards.

Players have a chance to "earn" runecoins or keys by completing surveys and stuff from thirdparty advertisers which pay runescape a stuffload of money per person completing a survey.

They could still have a membership program going for special rewards and stuff but I'm saying they should basically just make the entire game unrestricted and free at this point. There is a huge difference between F2P and P2P and their membership count is dropping with little to no increase.

Let me put it this way. The last time I played this game was in 2007. F2P in 2007 is almost no different from F2P in 2018 and the only way to actually level up combat in F2P is loving red spiders just like in 2007. Just killing the same loving spiders for XP for 10 loving years now.

Runescape has a stuffload of servers, this alone splits the player pool.

But now you have members and free players and this also heavily splits the player pool.

With a community this small there is no point in splitting the pool.

Ir's like multiplayer shooters with map pack DLCs. Eventually no one  are playing the DLC maps because they are P2P. I had this issue with Max Payne 3. I had this issue with Uncharted 2.

You add too many servers and premium content it forgets up the player pool.

He spent enough money to cover 1108 months of subscription, if you were paying for it one month at a time. Or 1108 people for a whole month each.

People like that is literally keeping this game alive, they probably don't even need membership anymore.

Membership is a dated concept and it's not surprising that many games no longer offer membership as F2P micro-transactions makes them more money than a membership price.

yeah, i can see that working. the game being free to play would probably attract a lot of new players, and they could even expand the microtransactions further if they wanted to be safer.

they could go the elder scrolls online route and convert the membership into a "runescape plus" kinda thing which gives you a slew of benefits every month, and maybe some small amount special content. i don't think they could switch to selling expansions at this point because people have enjoyed free updates for so long, but it kinda seems like they already understand that having more free content makes people more willing to put down money since they made some member quests f2p a while ago, and they've had some free weekends every now and then too.

frankly i feel like runescape has taken a pretty major back seat in the past few years, and i'd absolutely love to see it come back with something like this. was my first online game and i would love to come back to it, just don't wanna spend a monthly fee to do it

I'd like to see this, they need to have a lot less servers with more people concentrated in fewer servers.

the problem i can see with this is they would have to rewrite a lot of the server side code as OSRS is super dated and idk if it could handle that many players on one server.

I mean it's already so laggy.

Idk about RS3 tho
