Author Topic: Looking for someone to teach me how to script in BL. (Read 3384 times)

I know that this sounds like a huge undertaking, but I would really appreciate it if someone would help me to learn how to script in blockland. I do not know a lot at the minute, but I really want to learn how to script and I am determined to learn. I would like to learn basic scripting. If anyone would be willing to help please PM me or talk to me in this topic.

The first thing I would do is look at some scripts from Blockland. In example maybe the gun script. Then possibly change some values around and see what they do. I have no idea if you've done this already, or whether or not this is the way to go. So I recommend that you listen to pretty much anyone over me.

I have thought about doing this, but I do not think that it would help me as much as learning how to script. But, I might try this and see if I can figure something out. Thank you for replying.

Do that. It's how most people started off. If your serious about it, I recommend Notepad2. It's quite helpful with basic syntax highlighting. Once you get a basic feel for it, get determined on making a certain something. When you get stuck, ask someone else for help. However, avoid asking for 90% of the script (It's really annoying and no one ever really wants to do it for nothing).

It's only useful if you understand the basics of scripting/programming.� If you've never used a scripting/programming language before, then you'll have a hard time understanding the blockland scripts.� If this is the case, you'll want to look up some tutorials first.� I haven't seen many good Torque scripting tutorials, so I wouldn't recommend bothering to look them up.� I think JavaScript might be a good place to start since I have seen some really good ones.� I recommend http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp.� They have easy to understand tutorials with lots of examples and tools that allow you to easily experiment with things.� You could probably skip over the early parts that deal with using JavaScript in a web page (unless you happen to be interested in that too).� Once you've got the hang of that, then TorqueScript will probably make much more sense.

Either Javascript or PHP is your best option (from w3schools) they both resemble certain aspects of TorqueScript syntax and will teach you about conditional statements etc...

I'm fed up with people asking for them to be taught how to script and expecting for skill to be fed to them on a plate, garnished with a shiny red cherry.

This pretty much ticks every box for waiting open jawed for someone to insert a coin. I'm not sure how you could class this as looking
You'll find I don't flame everyone, to do so would be a great waste of time, tracking a hundred targets and finely tailoring a response to each and every one would quickly exhaust your response creating resources and responses would get repetetive.

I'm just fed up with the people who think that anyone asking or looking for help is a noob that expects things to be done for them.

Yeah, that is really what i was doing. What is wrong with looking for someone to help me? I don't know very much about scripting and I just thought that maybe someone could help me learn. Also, I am sick of people that think that they have to be a complete pandahead to anyone that asks for help.

Monty I'm Pretty sure that when you first started playing blockland you wanted help with scripting. Who knows this guy might come up with something epic if he learns.
