Author Topic: Looking for someone to teach me how to script in BL.  (Read 3386 times)

The first thing I would do is look at some scripts from Blockland.

It's only useful if you understand the basics of scripting/programming ... I think JavaScript might be a good place to start...

This is very true. I learned JavaScript back in the day just so that I would be able to use torquescript, and it was more useful than looking at random peoples' code from blockland, which will be bad code 99% of the time anyway.

Please, don't just look at some code and suddenly consider yourself a programmer and start making posts like this and this and this.

(Not that I have anything against those people).

In fact, I didn't bother scripting until a few months after I started.
I didn't ask for help, since I was busy experimenting with simple scripts.

There's nothing wrong with asking for help.

DEPENDING ON WHO YOU ASK

I'm fed up with people asking for them to be taught how to script and expecting for skill to be fed to them on a plate, garnished with a shiny red cherry.

Yeah, that is really what i was doing. What is wrong with looking for someone to help me? I don't know very much about scripting and I just thought that maybe someone could help me learn. Also, I am sick of people that think that they have to be a complete pandahead to anyone that asks for help.

Monty I'm Pretty sure that when you first started playing blockland you wanted help with scripting. Who knows this guy might come up with something epic if he learns.

If he needs to learn I doubt he will make something epic, If you ask for help your whole life you shall get know where...

... you shall get know where...

Also, you might get nowhere...

Not exactly  :cookieMonster: As I am posting this I am makings some mods...

Then why do we go to school? Everyone needs help learning how to do most things in life, especially when it comes to jobs. If I ask one thing, you automatically assume that I ask for everything. All I am doing is asking for help so that I know what I am doing when I try to script. Also, if you don't like my topic please GTFO.

PS-If you don't ask for help you shall get nowhere.

It's a balance between both. If you're always getting people to do stuff, you won't learn, but if you're always stuck, you won't learn, either.

Exactly, all I mainly want is atleast a basic knowledge of scripting so I can understand what I am doing.

Well, what I did is spent several years working with BYOND(4 year member woot) and then spent about 3 weeks learning basic torque script by looking at other scripts, and still am learning more.

So I guess the question is, do you have a lot of time on your hands?
