why do some blogs turn into research sites

Okay so basically I was on the internet browsing NYC Subway stuff and this happens. This isn't the first time, blogs are being turned into research sites for some reason. Any idea why?

real research sites

possibly botting, big sweeps of collecting passwords to accounts and mass configuration into pre-made websites

[MysteryDragon]

Possibly because the owner left their website to rot and lose their domain, letting bots scrape up the newly vacant URL and insert that.
