yea cottontail rabbits (im guessing thats what he caught) turn color in winter

update: refuge center said its definitely not wild, it's domesticated.

You're not suppose to interfere with wildlife and for all you know that rabbit could have babies that it is trying to feed and protect and then you effectively killed those babies by "saving" the parent.

Rabbits have fur for a reason, it would have been fine it probably has a home already and was just looking for food.
