Music doesn't work

Author Topic: Music doesn't work  (Read 831 times)

Well, I always wondered what this weird noise was, it's like a really really scratchy noise.
I found out that it was music.

I wanted to try out some of the music, yet

when I play the music brick, this really annoying scratchy sound comes out. Anyone know? Thanks.

If your using a mac there is no solution to this problem.

You may need to update OpenAL on your computer.  Windows tends to ignore OpenAL, so you have to update it manually.  If you google for OpenAL, it shouldn't be hard to find an installer that will update it for you.

I'll have to look into this.  Since Torque uses OpenAL for sound, there shouldn't be any problems as long as OpenAL is installed.

Strange, I can't seem to modify any of my posts that are outside of the beta forums...

Anyway, I remembered that I posted some information that might be helpful in the driver update sticky.  Here's the post I made so you don't have to search for it:

Even keeping up to date drivers might not solve everything.  I found that although most sound worked, I couldn't hear music.  I figured this might have been caused by a Microsoft oversight where they provide incomplete installations of things like OpenGL and OpenAL.  Driver update installations will sometimes fix this, but not always.

Anyway, if you are haveing the same problem as me (no music), then try installing OpenAL.  I did a google search and the installer at the following link fixed the problem for me:  http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46

That link is from the OpenAL downloads page.

OpenAL site:  http://www.openal.org/

Hopefully that'll help fix your problem.
