Punitive damage phase to start next Tuesday, which could increase the damages to $33 million.

The Jury in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case has reached a verdict.

According to our reporter in the Courtroom, the jury awarded $11 million. Here are the details: Allyn W. Gibson was awarded $3 million, David Gibson $5.8 million, Gibson Bros. $2,274,500. under aged black students from oberlin tried to shoplift alcohol which prompted one of the gibsons to confront the shoplifters. fight breaks out because "white guy trying to oppress black guy" nonsense it seems. students attack the gibsons, police arrive, arrest the shoplifters. they were later charged as guilty. students start boycotting gibsons, slandering on facebook, and protesting outside for reasons like "racial profiling". college student bodies may have influenced it to a degree. gibsons sues the school for damages and wins. students and school staff are in a titter because they lost.

the student bodies and from the sounds of it, the actual college president incited some kind of race baiting and failed. still reading into it but thats what im getting

i feel like it should fall on individuals in the student body that actually did the damage lol

if they sue the school, thats kind of a stuffty thing to do and the kids get off scott free

id like that, but then that might suggest punishing kids for protesting and exercising their free speech. i personally think its the colleges responsibility to teach students the right thing and how to approach civil discourse. kind of a bad image on the school if its pretty much just their students attacking and protesting a small business because they didnt understand the difference between an attack on race and protection from someone shoplifting from their store.

i guess if you put it that way, but i don't know enough of the details of the story tbh

also the punishment will almost certainly trickle down to the perps, but yeah trickle-down punishment economics might not actually teach them the lesson they need to learn

Reaganomics but with ass whoppins

the school were issuing college credits just to participate in the protest even

Not to mention the school cut all ties from the bakery, as the bakery was supplying their cafe

the school clearly was involved

The school took zero effort to expel these students or anything.

Even professors from that loving college joined those protests

It's all there in the article if you read it, the school is guilty for a reason

ok that makes more sense, i'd like to know where the evidence that they where actually shoplifting is though?

they blacc

Honestly this doesn't surprise me. Chipotle got in some heat a few months ago because they wouldn't give a guy his burrito until he paid and so he whipped out his phone and started filming and calling them tribal. Turns out he has actually ran off with his food multiple times without paying at the exact location and there were Tweets to prove it.
