"How to Radicalize a Normie" | Here we go again

This video popped up as a recommendation today while I was watching a Tim Pool video, this video in particular, and I decided to watch it, since I always try to give these videos a chance to play out and explain themselves. Allowing them to explain themselves, and get there points out so that I may counter with my own points, on why what they said is inherently wrong and arrogantly blind to reality. They labeled all these relatively normal, right of center or centrist commentators as "Alt-Right" and "national socialists". Absolutely insane, They've gone off the deep end. And from there, my brain is shut off and I stop listening...

except for this time

I don't know what it was, or what he said, but something hit me. I always dismissed his content because of misuse of words or knee-jerk labels, without actually listening to what the hell he was saying or what was going on. I had an epiphany. Everything I'd ever heard about the left or the "far left/leftists", about every argument and point, had been made by those who are not really a part of that group or usually interact with said group head-on. And any scenes or events that had been, had been edited and modified, and I'd never seen the other point of view. I became complacent and was willing to accept what I saw as true, without questioning what was going on in front of me, in my own life. More things dawned on me, that I usually rejects or dismissed. I wasn't willing to listen to most of what he'd said because most of it was exaggeration or false, but I also rejected what was clearly true. Yes, a lot of this video is bullstuff, but don't let that justify you dismissing what is real.

I've been ignoring the reality that I'd been accepting tribal ideas and thought processes, while dismissing criticism with "it's edgy humor" or "in-jest", but the reality was, that I really believed they were just jokes, but I didn't separate funny from reality. The best humor has truth in it, and that was also part of my mindset. That what I said was funny because it was true. And I started believing tribal things, even if I didn't recognize that they were indeed tribal. I also have been unwilling to accept counter arguments, because you hit a red-flag word. What's a red-flag word? Basically these are terms that will immediatly tell me 'you're bullstuff, I won't listen anymore.'. Do other people have these? probably, but I don't want to say yes or no for sure. Red flag words, for me, included:
  • tribal
  • loveist
  • family man
  • Transphobe
  • Misogynist
  • Bigot
  • national socialist
  • Patriarchy
  • Toxic Masculinity
  • (implied to be racial) Diversity

Basically, anything you expect to hear from the "Feminists PWNED" types, who're the the low hanging fruit being picked and shown. It basically festered into an arrogance, where I felt if you said these words, your opinions had nothing good in them and EVERYTHING was bad. I have to emphasize, this doesn't mean I agree with EVERYTHING in this video, nor do I agree with the modern Social Justice types in their entirety or anything of that nature.  What I'm saying is that I and, probably, many others have become unwilling to hear opposing viewpoints, if the opposition hits some preconceived red-flag territory. This is not healthy. Both sides have they're "The other is the evil, and we're the good" mentality. This video definitely shows that throughout and near the end. However, that doesn't mean everything they said is stuff and should go straight into the trash. And most importantly, I'm not who I thought I was, or what I thought I was. Stay vigilant.

if you say normie unironically you need to scuttle your way back to your hole in r/dankmemes

glad to hear you found a new perspective

this. very open minded of you to say all this, matthew, it can only improve communication.

Damn, I can't believe I like MM post.

Good on you for realizing your shortcomings, introspection is always a good thing.

The problem w/ this video is it p much applies to left wing extremism as well, and if they had taken a neutral stance and gone ahead with saying "this is how extremists recruit people" instead of simply the Alt-Right, it would have more impact

Instead, it will devolve into whattaboutism and most ppl will just ignore it cause being talked down to is annoying

blink twice if you're being held hostage

good for you matthew
as history guy i will say calling anyone a “national socialist” in todays day and age pretty much hurts you more than the person you’re attempting to insult, because outside of legitimate neo national socialist’s national socialistsm is so far off the modern western political compass, in that it doesn’t really fit a modern  norm of left vs right wing philosophy. national socialistsm is authoritative socialism with extremist nationalist and ethnocentric policies, a fact thats lost on many. It’s like a little kid repeating some word they just heard not knowing what it actually means. kinda like when some republicans called Obama a communist, it’s become an insult for the ignorant and uneducated

hard agree on this. extremism is the core issue. only extremists are able to justify violence, like using bike locks as weapons or driving into/over protesters blocking the street.

politics would be as normal if there wasnt so much extremism due to self-radicalization (in part due to how expressing interest in certain content on google/yt/etc results in more of the same stuff getting suggested constantly)

The weird thing is if u ask most ppl they're ready to condemn extremists, but no one can agree on who the extremists are bc when you point to right wing extremists (few, infrequent, but high profile due to high lethality) ppl point at left wing extremists (many, higher rate of incidents both violent and nonviolent yet lacking lethality) and vice versa

It's like impossible for certain ppl to admit both types of extremists are bad, as if it's okay 2 be extreme bc the other side is being extreme, it's dumb af but we're at the point where we can't even agree on common enemies so it's GG for the union

if anything, what should be the universally “too far” line is violence imo. any violence during protesting de-legitimizes said attackers cause it shows they arent there to convince people, they are there to beat them into submission/make them agree out of fear.

and anyone trying to compare it to the american revolution is taking things massively out of context. the american revolution was waged against an external threat, against soldiers shipped here from overseas. not against people living alongside you, and not to make them vote differently. establishing yourself as an independent nation involves claiming responsibility for the hardships that come with becoming an independent nation, and protestors in the modern era who resort to violence largely dont accept said responsibility and just want to have others agree with them.
