nice hats! although, the tops of the cowboy hats look a bit weird because of the degree of edge splitting, perhaps that could be touched on a bit?

maybe i didnt mark sharp edges, ill see

try smooth shade with a 38 degree edge split

I wouldn't use the edge split modifier, considering how Blockland models tend to have a lot of sharp angles due to it's low poly and blocky nature, i wouldn't trust the modifier to be able to determine which angles to split

You're better off doing the edge splitting manually, or otherwise at least use sharp edges to keep editing the model quick and easy

Oh, I didn't know you; 're talking about this, I thought you meant the "ravine" on top of the hat. I this part you sent I made on purpose to still be in more or less blockland style with all sharp edges but I can edit it if you guys think it'd be better w/o it. Also forget degree angle split, Ion trust it, I always select edges to be sharp manually.

The edge split modifier actually works pretty well, and you can adjust the amount with the degree slider to see the changes in real time. I use it on a lot of models where typical smooth shading makes the model look n64-like instead of blockland-like. Of course you don't want to select the whole model and do that, because yeah it can mess up edges that you don't want. In this case I only used it for the top of the rim and the round part of the hat.

There is nothing wrong with using the edge split modifier if used properly. In my opinion it looks better this way, but it isn't my add-on ofc so it's all up to you.
