Author Topic: recommend me some good headphones  (Read 2111 times)

so a few days ago one side of the headphones i use for my pc just stopped working after 3 years of using them, and now i need some sort of decent replacement to hear stuff.

something cheap would be nice due to budget reason, but they would probably last less than the ones that i had. bonus points if they have a mic or a detachable cable

HyperX headphones have a few different models with detachable headphones. A few of them have inline 3.5 jacks and come with an inline 3.5 to 3.5 mic and 3.5 audio port adapter. That adapter is usually like 2/3rds of the total cable length. Mine usually last me a good few years, and the audio quality is good.

Which model of headset do you have?

I second HyperX. My current headset (cloud alpha wireless) has lasted me going on 3 years now and it's been dropped and knocked from my desk several times. In fact, it's been dropped so many times I have literal zip ties holding it together at this point, but the audio quality and battery life are just as good as the day I bought it!

If your going for wireless it's going to cost a bit more than wired, but worth it in the end imo since you can use the wireless ones wired in as well if u ever wanted to

While idk which headphones to suggest to you, maybe getting a really cheap pair and quickly saving up for a really good pair is the best option.

I bought a pair of Sennheiser PC 350 SE's back in like 2013, they're still working amazingly and I constantly use them to this day even though it's beat up heavily, so a really good pair is likely to last you over a decade if you choose well.

Sennheiser HD 569. I've been using them for about 4 years now with no quality issues. They do not have a microphone, but do have a detachable cable. $149.95
I'm kind of a Sennheiser fanboy at this point, I've had two of their headphones, one with a mic and one without and I've never had issues with them.

if you're looking for good quality just get a starter audio interface kit

i use the audeze maxwell which is generally considered the "best gaming headset" but it's also quite heavy and definitely out of price range. i second the hyperx recommendation from experience

Audio Technica M50x They ARE $150 but you will spend more on cheap crap I promise you.

They've lasted like 10 years with 2 ear pad replacements. I've had to put a screw in one side since I broke a plastic piece after rage smacking them down, I've dropped them 100+ times. If you email support they will sell you specific parts but they are kinda costy.

If you absolutely can't afford that there are cheaper budget audio technica headphones but I can't speak for those. I've owned one pair of cheap headphones from them but I didn't use them much.

Do not buy headphones with a microphone on them. You get cheap headphones and a cheap microphone. Every mic/headphone combo I've had breaks fast.

i use $4 earbuds from the dollar store
legit good blend of cheapness and quality but ymmv

my two cents:
when i was looking for an audio solution i went with the BeyerDynamic DT 990 and they sound very good. Some folks will say they are a bit weighted on the treble but for gaming that's exactly what I was looking for. Very light, wont get sweaty or sore ears after 6+ hours of use, metal frame that wont bend easily.

FYI you need an audio interface or adapter as this unit uses a 1/4 inch connector and may be a tad pricey for some.
