TL;DR the islands have been under British control since before Argentina's founding except in a brief stint in the 1800s where Argentina temporarily owned a military base on the island and claimed it as their own until being pushed out by the British again.



In the face of a bunch of Britain lagging behind the rest of the world on policy, and the disasterous Brexit decision back in '20, Scotland, North Ireland, and even Wales, have joined together to announce their intentions to essentially disband the United Kingdom and form their own governments. While they would still maintain open relations and trade with Britain, they would be free to enact their own laws and conduct more advanced economic activities such as rejoining the EU.
Right now this MOU is not a legally binding document or official secession declaration, but it does lay the ground work for the countries to begin plans on how they would govern themselves once separated from Britain.
