im just waiting for that moment when the developers say "im fed up with all the disloyalty, for that, there will not be a game. you guys just screwed yourself over"

"My hard drive crashed and I lost all the code!"
The number of time's I've heard that :cookieMonster:

badspot should get the name blockland copyrighted, then they can't call it that :D
LOL, Spore won't be released because EA's hard drive crashed.

:cookieMonster: This guy thinks the game is called "Project 1" when it's "Project A" Does research on a game he doesn't know how to name properly. By the way do you even know how to use Steam?
Yes, I do, I use it every day, and what makes you say that?  Also, I don't give a stuff on your game  mod hacked Half-Life you call "Project A" so go shove your E-snake back into Blockland Central.

damn I just jumped like ten pages and yal are STILL talking about those HL2 maps? Persistent bugars aren't you?

My bet is that they'll go into the "final touches, only a few months more" stage, then all information on it will disapate as they get horrid lag from 100 bricks.

This thread gives me more entertainment then my daily icanhascheezburger email.

I know, when ever this gets boring, we get more crap to make it a good read :D

They claim that there will be no lag, because it uses a connection to some kind of super computer network..psh.
Unless of course, you actually ask for proof that the revolutionary systems exist:

No Lag - Yes you heard me, NO LAG. This is the hardest concept to grasp, due to the fact of its great complexity. Many (about 10) years ago, some person working on cancer research had a very good idea. Supercomputers are usually what he need for simualations and research. Now, supercomputers are all VERY exspensive (Like millions of dollars), but he noticed when you put 2 hardrives in a computer you get more space. After a few days of thought he got the idea. There are now 2 approaches to super computing: Making a HUGE computer (usaully takes years and is extremely difficult. The only people i know who actually have a supercomputer in this country (US, ugh, i really wish i could go on vacation away from here, im not exactly patriotic) is the governmet. An they use it for stupid stuff ex. wall decorations. The other approach is linking many computers physically together. These are called beowulf clusters (I think). These usually have a little less power than normal supercomputers, so Dr. What's His Name decided to take this even further. He placed a download link on his website to a peice of software that allowed peoples computers to be part of a vast supercomputer network when they are inactive. His network approach was WAY bigger than normal supercomps. So, in the spirit of inventiveness, we are putting this into the game. Modders beware, you have almost infinite power at your disposal. I'm hoping to sell this kind of technology for other companies and studios after we prefect it. Around $200 US dollars sounds good for that. IDK photoshop is more than that, and unity will be a little more important i think.

Also, as I have previously stated, we are not doing any work on the "Unity" system currently. That's not even a confirmed feature.

You can thank ME for that image. >_>

Good use of it though :D

Funny how they expect us to take them seriously when they don't even know who came up with the idea (Dr. What's His Name), and don't know what the idea is called (These are called beowulf clusters (I think)):cookieMonster:

and that I've achieved more porting/scripting bricks into the Source Engine in a day then it appears they have during their entire length of development.

Wow, they want to Peer2peer@home, woo.  It's called Folding@Home, and has expanded to the many people that found it, including PS3 users.

lol this system would give you epic input lag ( press W and one second later you move )

EDIT: a/v streaming is buffered like maybe 5 seconds.  i would not play in these conditions, especially DM.

It's just a cluster and the idea is pretty straight forward, so there's no real inventor as such. Beowulf clustering is just a "philosophy" involving free software and cheap hardware.

Anyhow, there is a reason game developers don't outsource time-sensitive calculations to world-wide internet clusters: it's pandaing stupid. To elaborate, handling and distributing the tasks and data without some sort of central server is cumbersome and inefficient, connection speeds are unpredictable (not to mention the signal delay), and the different parts that need to be calculated in a game are largely dependent on each other, so large amounts of data needs to travel fast to several other computers over an internet connection.

"Unity" is the most solid proof we have that these guys are talking out of their asses. The fact that they'd even consider using a network cluster for a real-time game shows that they fail to grasp even the basic concepts of parallel computing, not to mention the know-how needed to design anything beyond what they've shown in their stupid pandaing Half-Life 2 screenshots.

Tl;dr:

Linde, that's a good brown townysis but the paradox here is that anyone who does not realize these facts intuitively is going to be too stupid to understand your explanation.  You cannot educate these people, all you can do is palm your face.
