Author Topic: Suggestion: Houses  (Read 4859 times)

Think of it a buyable house from the store. Go to the wilderness and open it (not instahorse ripoff)
then you can collapse it and take it with you but beware some houses are deadly!

Yeah.... But then noobs could Mule and make a wall of houses around Port Town, thus making it impossible to leave. :(

Well, I think houses should be like twice as much money as insta- horse there-by keeping newbs from making it. Then also make it so when it goes up, it stays up and to get it down you would need to buy a house collapser. And though this doesn't have to do with that problem, I think it'd be cool to have houses be locked to everyone exept for the person and there friends( when he gets the buddy list up).
I think that would be awsome!<:)

the only problems with houses would be that they would cause a lot of lag. especially if some good for nothing player told everyone to not collaps their house. 0_o

I wouldn't mind some kind of mining system. Mine ore, send it to the factory. If not enough people keep mining, the costs of weapons explode. You get paid something to, and you can get in fights with other workers. If you find special stones, such as opal, gold, and granite (models already in the game too), you can keep them and sell them for a cash bonus or build something with it or make a sculpture or something. Add random events, like if you stay in for more than two hours you die from coal dust, or having the air randomly explode every once and a while. Then people can host rescue operations...

That would be preety cool. Sounds kind of hard though.

Well, badspot already made stuff like that ( Volcano) and all you need is a timer script ( I have done some reaserch)

I think that is a goood idea but couldn't you make houses colapse by themselves after maybe an hour? then the house goes back to your inventory.

Lets not have houses in the first place. Why do you need houses? Do you want furniture aswell? What about wallpaper and decorations? Do you want to waste al that money for nothing but some bed you can sleep in?

Hey, how about you buy a sleeping bag? Eh? Sleep in that like a normal bed. If someone shoots you while you are in it, you die, and they can take it. Or someone can just blow it up.

Assuming that a sleeping bag is a modern invention, then you can use the "bedroll".

wedge thats an awesum idea

Any of you heard of Ultima online?

heres what happened: (from wiki)

Housing
Another problem was that of player-owned housing. UO has always allowed players to purchase houses, and build them on practically any flat piece of land. For the first few months, the primary issues with housing were that losing the key meant losing the house (often to another player who stole it or killed the owner), and if someone managed to get inside the house (either by exploitation of a bug or by simply waiting until someone opened/unlocked the door), they could steal everything inside. These issues were later addressed by making house keys “blessed” (non-stealable, non-droppable upon death) items, and by giving special commands to “lock down” items, so that even those who got in the house could not pick them up. Ownership of a house was also eventually defined separately from mere key possession.

After a few months, when some players and guilds had enough money to buy many houses, there came the problem of using tents and other cheap houses to wall off huge sections of the world as private areas. It was a common solution to the above problems (before they were fixed), if you owned a large house like a tower, to build three smaller houses around the entrance, walling you in, and then using the recall or gate spell to get inside that artificial courtyard. Since some players abused that tactic to create gigantic “courtyards”, the developers eventually opened up all of the major ones by deleting selected houses and by putting the additional restraint on house placement rules requiring that there be empty space around a building before it may be placed.

By the time Trammel was introduced, there was literally not a single empty space of land anywhere in the game where a house of any size could be built. Vast amounts of wilderness were covered with a thick layer of housing, making places supposedly “wild” seem like cities. When housing was enabled on Trammel, tens of thousands of players simultaneously camped out and tried to compete for prime locations for various types of houses, resulting in massive amounts of telestorming, where players were transferred amongst the sub-servers of a given shard, causing random teleportation and extreme amounts of lag. For many years, housing space was scarce, due in part to rising numbers of subscribers and only slowly increasing limitations on the number of houses each account may own. Several worlds were created without the ability to have houses built within them to protect their atmosphere from becoming another city. Almost all house transactions during this time were of currently-owned houses being sold, or people waiting outside houses that are about to “decay” (disappear from lack of use) – even though housing is limited to one house per player. In recent years, additional housing areas have been made available for all players. Many subsequent MMORPGs used instancing for housing or simply did not provide it at all.

Although i like whoevers idea it was that we could use collapsable houses which return to inventory in 30mins. It wouldnt cause lag, and furniture wouldnt be made, and you wouldnt be able to use anywhere but wilderness, and it wouldnt be able to have beds. still would be cool to stack em up to make 20story towers heh

I suggest a house that is prefurnished

Instance based housing is nice, where everyone can share the same house, and you show it off to your friends by getting them a duplicate of your house key. However, I imagine that the number of instances would screw the game over eventually. I have no clue where you could put these houses, unless you could actually save them to the users computer.

I like the idea of camping. It sounds preety good. Start signal fires and roast monster meat for food or something.
