Author Topic: Sketchup to Blender  (Read 1942 times)

How do you change a Sketchup file to a .blend file? I need to know so I can get my gun and bear from Sketchup.

Let my put this simple, dont use sketchup to make addons. First off, blender cant make joints, youl need Milkshape anyway. Second, sketchup wont export to blender. Third, Idk what third is, but everything needs a third.

Learn to model with either blender or milkshape. They are easier once you get use to them.

Blender can make joints. Then can Sketchup export to Milkshape?

Wow never knew athough im trying to inform you will you inform me on how to make joints in blender.
No exporters from .skp to.ms3d from what i know

Then how does TheGeek make his models in Sketchup? For Blender just look on the tutorial section of http://blenderartists.org/cms/index.php. I don't really want to tell you how.

youl need Milkshape anyway.

No you don't. I use Blender for everything.

What formats can Sketchup export to? Any good modelling program has at least a few exporters. See if it can export to .obj, and use Blender to import with that.

There is a free exporter from Sketchup to .obj and from Blender to .dts available for download if you search a bit. Then use Blender to add joints, animate it and export it to .dts. Blender comes with a built-in .obj importer.

Ive been wondering this myself, now I have to go get blender, is there a trial version?

Thanks Space Guy, and Blender is completely free.
EDIT: Could you give me a link Space Guy? I googled it and couldn't find it.
