Doors in v9

Author Topic: Doors in v9  (Read 23441 times)

It would take trader longer time to finish the doors by looking for door sounds. There is nothing wrong with the AIM (AOL) sounds.

AIM door sound...whoopee...
I'd have to agree with Ronin - Its such a basic sound lacking any depth.

Lol, what does that even mean?  I don't care who agrees with whom.  Make your own damn Door types and you can choose sounds as deep as you want.
"Oh hey, it's criticism, I'll just smother it with an authority argument."
Also, I'm quite sure those sounds are copyrighted.

"Oh, hey, I'll keep complaining about something that I'm not making, even though I know the maker has already decided against what I'm suggesting that he do."

Anyway, I'm not selling the Add-On, so I don't really care about copyright.  I like the sounds, I have liked the sounds since I made Doors originally.  That's why I chose them, that's why I'm keeping them . . . end of discussion.  When it comes to my Add-Ons, I am the authority, and there's no argument.  I said 'no' to what you're suggesting and there's no need to keep bringing it up.

Fin.

DolFin.
Couldn't resist. (Yeah, I know)

On a serious note, it's obvious Trader has his stuff together, stop assing him. Especially Ronin, who seems to only post here to consistantly Bitch and Moan about seriously pointless stuff. Back On-Track:

So, you'll be able to Choose what sound the Door Makes, in Conjunction with the Pitch, or am I misconstruing what you said here?
...choose sounds as deep as you want.

So, when doors coming? Along with Elevators? V9 Is out, and everyone is anxious.

:3

Yeah, but i guess i can live with making bricks that kill themselves untill they out :D

its v9 so when will this be releasesd DX

I'm not selling those gazillion MP3s on my PC, but that doesn't mean it's legal.

You're right, it's your add-on, and you're a good coder. But does that mean you shouldn't listen to suggestions? And it's not like I'm the only one who thinks the sounds suck. But hey, opinion stated, opinion overruled, carry on.

I like the sounds just fine, never thought anything was wrong with them in any way.  And hey, he already said they can be turned off.

Also, look at it this way:  Your making a house, and you make your stairs a certain way.  Then someone comes along and says that the railing could look better.  You never even thought that.  You just built the railing exactly how you thought it would look when you thought of the build.  Then another person comes along and agrees with the first person.  Are you going to change the railing just because two people came along and said it could look better even though it is exactly how you decided how it should look, and you know it works with the style that rest of the house will be made with?

Geek, I already took one of your suggestions, but in a way that made sense to me.  You can customize which tab the Doors show in and under what section by changing a $JVS pref.  There's no way for me to grant you this sound request in a way that makes sense to me.  I like the sounds, and that's the opposite of you not liking the sounds.  There's no way to reconcile the two.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested, but can/are the door sounds customizable? (as in, from a drop down menu)

I'm not joining the little fight over AIM noises, but I just want to know if the option will be there.

No, you cannot select a different sound from a drop down and here's why.

The sounds that are set for each Door have been accurately timed with delays.  The Garage Door sound matches up perfect with the motion of the Garage Door itself, so the delay is 0.  However, the Wooden Door sound needs to be played closer to the end of the animation, so the delay is higher.  Now, you could change the events and use the playSound event, but the sounds won't match up to the animations very well.  Please note that the AIM sounds will not be used for all the Doors.  Any Doors that, in real life, would be made of metal would have different sounds.  The same is true for any other Doors that wouldn't sound right with a Wooden Door sound.

Ah, ok. That makes sense. Just a random thought...is it possible to add sounds to the events system?

I think all .wav sounds or all .wav sounds referenced by an audio datablock show up under the playSound event for bricks.  Try this event structure:

onActivate -> Self -> playSound -> choose .wav file

Then, just click the brick and the sound should play.
