very n00by question

ok so i have had the game for about.. 1 month? and im absolutely stumped on the add-ons situation. i was wondering, if you join a game with a bunch of add-ons you dont have, and it downloads them (well it SAYS it downloads them), why dont they appear on your add-on list for starting your own game? like, do you have to download the add-ons from the forum to the game yourself, or does it download them in-game? if thats the case, could someone please point me to a giant file of popular add-ons or whatnot?

by the way, this is my first time posting on the forums (haha im a noob) and just effin love the game. i just wish there were a few more features or whatever, but no worries the game will expand and grow as it gets older. thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to the community, I'm not going to pretend to be smart and try to make up a smart sounding answer. But I think the reason is your downloading the files temporarily when you download them off someones server. But when you put it in your addons folder when you host a server, you are hosting the files for everyone who joins. All the information is stored on your computer.

thats exactly what i needed to know. woah you guys are very fast with your replies haha. thanks for the help. but yes, i was just joining a server and auto-downloading them from there.

one more question, say i download all of the add-ons the server has, would it make the server load any faster because i dont have to auto-download them? or does it have to auto-download them regardless?
(by auto-download i mean downloading the files off the server that you dont already have)

Yes it will make the load when joining the server and other servers with the addons you downloaded MUCH faster.

when you download an add-n via server join, you dont download the entire thing. When you have that add-on, you dont have to download it anymore. unless they have something mroe to that addon that you do not

In client addons, you only download the very basic things needed for you to see the shapes, the server host deals with the rest (I.E. coding and controls of the addon) you just download the shape and colors needed for the addon that you see.  (Thats what i think happens, im not exactly sure, go ahead and correct me if im wrong)

Why did you bump this to say something I already said? Plus, you said it wrong.
A client or client-side add-on is something that works for the client only, regardless of what the server has.
