Port Forwarding on Vista

It's my server, I just finished forwarding my ports and wish to make sure that I did it right.
the server name is:
(Join, Testing if I forwarded my ports right)
[well, something of that nature, you'll know it when you see it]
and I skipped step 3 in the forwarding process, because on my computer there are 2 TCP/IP things, one is TCP/IPv6 and the other TCP/IPv4, so I've no clue which one to use.
If my server doesn't work, let me know and help me with the TCP/IP issue.

you'll probably want to use tcp/ipv4, its currently more supported thank ipv6.

Generally speaking there are a couple things that will prevent you from hosting. the one I always forget about is my firewall. Most of the time i just disable it, but you can configure it to port forward just 28000 if you want to stay safe, or connect directly to the internet, rather than going threw a router or modem (dialup). Then you need to be sure your router/modem is set up correctly. most modems can be configured dynamically to allow a certain port to be forwarded from a computer.

With qwest dsl, at the least, you can actually 'see' the access point in either My network places (winXP) or in the Network configurations page (vista). right click on your router or modem and go to properties, and then hit the settings button. This will take you directly to the services management tool, allowing you to port forward.  This does bypass the modems direct user login so you wont need any type of password.

The only thing I want you to clarify is the firewall issues.  How would I know if my firewall is presenting a problem??
Also, is it necessary to configure my modem if I did it the way Badspot showed in the guide?
An last, explain that last paragraph a little better, because to me it sounds like you mean I should do this as well as how Badspot showed.
