Author Topic: Terrain Repetition  (Read 1396 times)

For those of you who did not notice:

Either this was added in v9 or I never noticed it before.

Very useful tool, however I wish we could make mega terrains in BL as well as TGE.

I think it would be very useful if there were also the option of having a second terrain file that is used as the repeat terrain, so you could have a terrain that has the bumps and such, and a terrain that repeats on forever without such things.  Would be nice.

I want Atlas terrains. That tech is so loving cool. The size of the map is only limited by the amount HDD space you want to occupy.

Theres even a guy on GG who figured out how to turn atlas terrains into spherical planets with proper orbital gravity and everything. He did it by curving 6 Atlas terrain blocks around a central point and overlapping certain parts. he has done some really amazing stuff.

Sadly Atlas terrain is a part of TGEA, not TGE.  :(

Try building on that lol. Bricks would be upside down.

I has TGEA, its good fun to play with (Pretty much the only reason why I bought it), I think you need a special program to make Atlas maps that (Yet again) costs moneys.

charging extra for Atlas terrain? ...thats just rude.   >:(

I haven't had a chance to play with TGEA so maybe you can fill me. Does it use the same kind of models and datablocks and scripts like TGE does? or is it totally handled in a different manner?

Its still all Torque Script but its got a stuff load more scripts etc for the new engine parts. To put it simply it literally is TGE Advance.

Holy forgetnuggets...I just realised that if terrain no longer repeats...I could use actual terrain blocks for the planets...

You can have more than one terrain block right?

The are around non-repeating terrain has causes weird camera glitches when you fall through it.

You would have to use huge terrain blocks so the repeat (void) was far enough away it would be unlikely people would wander into it.

There was a map in RTB with multiple terrains, it suffered from all kinds of glitches. Maybe things have changed though.

So wait...outside of the terrain block, what happens exactly? because I would probably end up making the terrain blocks the size of each planet.

I'm not sure what the glitch is or why it occurs. Imagine a normal repeating terrain. Now take all of the repeats and make them invisible, but let the player camera still collide with them. It looks a bit like that. Not exactly of course, I don't think the camera follows the counters of the terrain repeats.

You'll only notice it in third person, not first person.

Also, I really don't think multiple terrains will work, you will have to use a large terrain and the set empty tool.

Set empty tool is limited. Too limited for my needs.
