How do you make a server un-dead. What makes a server dead?

A dead server means no connection. If you are leaving the server to check, that may just be the problem itself, the server closes if you leave one that you're hosting. However, if you're getting someone to check for you, and you are on a router. Your ports may not be forwarded.

I forworded my ports but I'll play around with them some more an see if I can't get it working

You can host without forwording.  I did it but it was unreliable as hell.  I recomend forwording

You actually can, but it's a stupid move.  Also, my dial-up could host without being dead, though it lagged with one person.
