Author Topic: What Internet browser do YOU use?  (Read 6368 times)

I don't give a stuff what I use as long as it has Tabs and can block pop-ups. The end.
friend.

I use Head & Shoulders.

In my opinion, both IE and Firefox suck.
Maxthon is better.

WHAT KIND OF CONDOM DO YOU USE?

Did you know website designers have to write two versions of websites? One for the broken IE with quirks and non-standards-compliance, and a fully working version for Firefox, Safari, Opera etc.

IE doesn't correctly support CSS, Javascript, SVG, HTML5, transparent PNG, XHTML or DOM. All of these are very important to making websites look prettier than just text.

The standard test of web standards compliance is Acid3 (http://acid3.acidtests.org/). As you can see, IE fails and other browsers get near-perfect scores.

IE6 - 12/100 (Trident)
IE7 - 14/100 (Trident)
Firefox 3 - 71/100 (Gecko)
Safari 3.1 - 75/100 (WebKit)
Konqueror - 76/100 (KHTML)
Opera 9.52 - 83/100 (Presto)

Opera will be at about 100 in the next release :P, the development version of the Presto engine hits 99 on my pc :D

Firefox has an "Add-On" system which lets people upload small programs to add new features:
Adblock - (Comes by default) Lets you block images and iFrames that come from certain sources, so you can block all sort of advertisements
Dictionary - Displays a red underline with "suggestions" under misspelled words.
Flashblock - Stops website flash programs from running until you click a "play" button on them. This lets you avoid annoying animated advertisements (again) and concentrate on whatever website you want to see.
NoScript - Stops unwanted scripts running on your computer which could potentially track info on you (For instance, most websites get paid by Google to host/run a script that tracks when you visit them, and then issue 'targeted' adverts) or do harmful things through cross-website scripting. (e.g. download viruses without your knowledge)
IETab - (Windows version of Firefox only due to its nature) I've mentioned this before, it lets you switch to the Internet Explorer rendering engine for websites which are incompatible with normal internet standards.

yeah, the benefits of firefox,
I'm extremly ripped apart between Opera and Firefox,
Mainly it's only a two add-ons that I miss in Opera:
 - Adblock plus
 - Google Toolbar
but those two always get me back to firefox many times :)

most of the time I use Opera as it is faster and more standard compliant, also it's easier to use once you get used to it.

I still think it's funny how most browsers, espeacially firefox, always follow are following opera when it comes to features.....
Opera introduces fast dial, soon after a user creates a add-on for firefox. <- that was the best example for it xD

Isn't the "Speed Dial" thing just a larger GUI for the bar with favourites/links on in almost every other browser?

It's a bit different than that,
it's a page that is displayed when you have no pages open, or when you open a new tab, (a replacement for the normal about:blank page.)
It can have up to 9 pages in it, rectangles with previews of the pages you put in them, you can let them automatically refresh after some time etc. and you just have to press the corresponding number on your keyboard to go to the pages.
I've attached an image.

You guys have inys or outys.

Maxthon is better.
Maxthon is just like a new interface for IE, nothing more.
And when it comes to security, speed, compability .... Firefox, Opera, Safari and Konqueror (list can go on), are just better.

Ah, but in Maxthon, you can browse multiple pages at once without flipping inbetween them.

You're turning into an annoying friend/starfish.

Also, I did that acid3 test.

Failed miserably with AOL Explorer browser.

Well, at least I passed 5 tests.  :cookieMonster:
