Honors Algebra

I'm in eighth grade this year, and I'm taking three ninth grade classes, which include German, Physical Science, and Honors Algebra. So far the first two have actually managed to present a slight challenge to me. However, I'm quite shocked at some of the problems on today's algebra homework. Some include:
Writing an inequality for -6 and 4,
finding the opposite of 8,
and finding the absolute value of 7.
Does this sound like ninth grade algebra?

No, Algebra is an eighth grade course, this is "Honors Algebra". It probably is Algebra II, but with a different name.

Of course, had I talked to the guidance counselor, I could have been walking over to the high school daily for Geometry.

My school used the core curiculum when I was in 9th grade.  So I never took algebra or really learned to use it until I picked it up during pre-AP pre-calc

This is exactly why we need a nation-wide curriculum and not the widely varied state-created curriculum.

My point exactly. I really was expecting something new when I signed up for the class. But, it's only the beginning of the year; I hope it gets better eventually.

Also, an inequality is something like 2<4.

loving easy stuff, geometry gets worse o.o At least, she's reviewing now but more in-depth stuff for stuff like lines and getting angles and stuff. Getting really complex in determining it o.o

Also called the sandwich Theoem.  Of course that day was the day that we got to talk about Bi-conditional stuff.  The teacher also mentioned going both ways.  It was funny.
