As soon as you mention internet, you are talking about WAN.
A LAN could be constructed without internet.
sam123, you know what a router is? Any computer that is connected to the same router as you, is considered part of the LAN. Ex. Two computers plugged into your router, they form a LAN. Ex. 20 computers plugged into a HUB, they form a LAN. Bridged connections are also part of the LAN.
