Author Topic: How would I forward ports  (Read 1632 times)

I have a mac. I have a LINKSYS comcast router. Can I even forward ports in the first place? I would much appreciate if someone would tell me how to do it. I have posted many topics about forawarding ports, this is my first time mentioning what router I have. I hope it works this time!

Do you know the exact model?

Which one... you aren't being specific enough.

WCG200v2.CC is what I saw on the bottom of it. That seems to match the linksys one. What now?

Do you know what your static ip address is?

Hmmm..... thats the hard part. I only ever see the one that changes all the time, but someone said there are ways to view it. I'll look into that.

:O! I got to one page that said:
IP address:

Subnet Mask:

Router:

And had numbers after those. I can edit this to show you those numbers, but would that put me in danger of being hacked?

First tell me how you got to that screen, the best way is just command prompt and ipconfig /all

Well, I went to
System Preferences -> Network -> TCP/IP

And then it showed up. What do you mean by command prompt and ipconfig/all?

What operating system are you using, and I can help you.

Well, I have a mac OS X, and when I search Operating System on the mac help page, it says that the Operating System that runs mac computers is known as the Mac OS...

Did that help anything?

Well, I don't have any experience with Macs, however google is my friend =D.

I know this is a good website for these kind of things, just follow this tutorial to set up a static IP address.

http://portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm

T_T I went there, got VERY far, I understood everything they were talking about! It ALMOST worked!  I need to figure out what the heck they're talking about, DNS, and isp. That's where I'm stuck. I need to call isp......

Damn, in xp it's easy to get your dns... Hmmm, your ISP is your Internet Service Provider, so who gives you your internet.

In truth its very easy to do.

WELL I have comcast... so maybe them? That would be kind of awkward seeing as my Mom works for Comcast....
