Port Forwarding on a Mac? Static IP addresses are bad? What???

I am sure many of you have seen me post on here about port forwarding on a mac. So many of you have told me that I need to make a static IP address, and many of you have also given me links to "Port Forward.com". I was trying to find out my isp (internet service provider) and found that it was Comcast. My mom works for Comcast, so I asked her about DNS ip addresses, and when she looked at the screen for making a static IP address, she said that static IP addresses are dangerous because they open your computer to hackers, and are actually made for Business groups so that when they change locations, they will be located at the same place. So what is all this about? Do I really need to make a static IP address? Are they really dangerous? I know my router and everything, so that part is solved. But for each question I solve, two more pop up. Please help me, even better if the person who helps owns a mac him/herself.

Well it opens your computer to the world, so hackers are bound to try and hack your PC. ANd trust me, I will believe someone with years of computer experience over some computer geek I don't even know. -_-

1. When setting up a static IP for port forwarding, you are setting up a static LAN IP, not a static internet IP.
2. If your mom is worried about hackers, tell her to get a firewall.

It is completely safe if you have a good firewall, most routers have them inbuilt and you should have a good one on your computer (not windows firewall).

Port forwarding, no matter how many times your mother/Geeksquad/Comcast says it, will NOT OPEN UP YOUR COMPUTER TO HACKERS.
I've been on open ports for about 2 years now and I've gotten no attacks on our LAN or our computers.

Just make sure your router page password is not the default one, and make sure your wireless internet is password protected, because it's really 100% impossible to get through a wireless network's password without actually knowing it.

If it even is true, then get a firewall. They're inexpensive and easy.
