Author Topic: Blender or Mikshape  (Read 5596 times)

I have just begun to model, and i was wondering which program is better for someone with no knowledge of modeling at all. I heard that milkshape is easier but it costs money and blender is complex and free. So if anyone can give me some information i would greatly appreciate it.

I say have them both.

while this topic is fresh, does anyone know how to install the torque dts exporter. i've probably tried every single possibility to get it to work on blender. yes i have used the search button but i don't find anything. i even tried google. i created a couple mods and i would like to try them out but i can't eexport them.

Milkshape is good for beginners because there is very few features to learn. However, that advantage turns into a disadvantage once your more skilled, as you will have spent $35 dollars on a program that you may abandon.

So, what I did was learn what I could with the trial, that moved to Blender.

Make sure you have the most recent version (Blender 2.48 and DTS Exporter 0.964).
Extract the DTS Exporter anywhere, and run (double click on) the WindowsInstallScripts.js included in the exporter.
You may need to install Python as well.

Thanks I'll try that

I have no idea how to use MilkShape so I use Blender.

How do i get the trail for Milkshape? I am beggining to model now.

Sketchup is quite easy, yes. But in the discussion of Blender or Milkshape, I'd say Milkshape.

Wings3d. Export your model to .obj, and then Import it in Milkshape.

ill stick with google ketchup

Milkshape is good if you want an easy to learn program that costs $35 dollars that your only going to use for making game models.
Blender is good if you want a free program thats harder to learn, that can do a lot more then making game models.

Blender actually isn't that hard if you try to learn it, rather than look at the interface and think its too confusing. You won't get anywhere by quitting because it's too confusing.

I personally think blender is better and that is only because of a miracle worker named super3boy on youtube. His tutorials rock! He goes over them nice and slowly and it just rocks. He has his own website www.nystic.com and there are some videos not on youtube there but you learn a lot from him. He has over 30 blender tutorials. to request a tutorial he always has the link in the decription but its forum.nystic.com His yotube account is the following link.
