Author Topic: HAY GUYZ: Socialism  (Read 3735 times)

Ranted about this a bit on Iban's server. It's late, I may say some incomplete things or things that make little sense.

I'm sick and loving tired of hearing about how evil socialism is. It's all Republicans bashing Democrats in an attempt to make them look like they hate America. The same loving tactic they use to make it sound like they hate the military too.

Fun Fact: Most Democratic Senators have voted for bills increasing military benefits. Many Republicans have opposed such bills. For example, The Post 9/11 Montgomery GI Bill. It basically grants free tuition to colleges for serving military personal and their families under certain conditions. People like McCain opposed the bill based on the fact that a study showed it would decrease current military enrollment, but that same study said recruitment would increase by the same percent.

Socialism is stability. Here are just a few major example of socialist acts preformed by the US government.

Federalism and the establishment of a standardized currency between the states.
Child labor laws.
Recognition of labor unions.
Theodore Roosevelt's progressive policies.
Agricultural subsidiaries
Anti-trust/monopoly laws
FDR's New Deal programs(Transfer payments, welfare, social security, etc.)
The recent $700 billion bail-out

Businesses cry about the "evils" of socialism whenever it hurts their bottom line, but as soon as the crCIA hit many of them went crying to daddy because they were in trouble. The bail out plan sure sounds like socialism to me, if we kept a true capitalistic mindset the government would have just let the banks fail. I believe socialism brings order when chaos starts to emerge. When businesses under a capitalist ideology grow very large, they can start asserting a government like control over the economy. When unfair trade practices emerge and many are hurt because of it, our government has consistently stepped in to regulate it.

The lovely Sarah Palin has been vocal on her opposition to socialism. Palin is the governor of the state that benefits the most from government transfer payments. Many of Alaska's industries rely on those payments to survive. She says socialism like that is OK though, it helps the state!

WTF BITCH

So socialism is evil when it doesn't benefit you in some way? Sounds like the same mindset the corporations have.

The Republicans have been labeling everything the Democrats support as evil socialism. Do they even understand what it really is? Or are they just using it as a scare tactic to fool the ignorant undecided voters to support their side? Disgusting.

I don't understand why so many people are bitching about people making over $250,000 getting taxed more. NEWS FLASH: You probably don't make that much. And the extra amount those people are charged is horribly misrepresented by Republicans.

Quote from: Some Guy
Let's do simple math here. Let's say you're Company X and make $250,000 in revenue for the year. You are taxed at 36%. $250,000 x .36 = $90,000. Therefore, your income after taxes is $160,000.

Now, let's say you're Company Y and make $250,001 in revenue for the year. You are taxed at 36% for the first $250,000, and at 39% for anything above $250,000. $250,000 x .36 = $90,000. $1 x .39 = 39 cents. Therefore, your income after taxes is $160,000 and 61 cents.

What exactly is the problem here? I'm not understanding.

America isn't capitalist, and communist countries like China aren't true communists. We all have major socialist aspects to our societies. We need to stop half-assing it so we can actually get somewhere.

I like socialism, I believe it can work if no one's an starfish. This is a problem, as the majority of people are asses.

Bah. My history teacher gets all Incredible Hulk when it comes to politics.

I believe it was Ronald Reagan who began to take out public works policies enacted by FDR during the Great Depression.

Why is socialism so scary for white collared jerks? They lose their nice job at the top of the company and are replaced by non-idiots. England did something like this with their banks.

Blah blah blah yap yap dribble dribble dribble.

Bah. My history teacher gets all Incredible Hulk when it comes to politics.

I lol'd

The bailout is horrificly idiotic, people run the economy into the ground and get paid for it. The forget?

Agree, this is on-par with calling Communism "evil".

If you didn't read then don't post you handicap.
It's called a joke, but whatever.

Otis, have my babies!  <3

America seems to have forgotten a little thing called common sense...or at least one party has.

Trickle down economics don't work. The idea doesn't seem bad, let the rich get more breaks so they can provide more benefits to the lower class. Throw the wrench called human nature into the gears and watch as it breaks down and collapses. The people who get more money are likely to keep more for themselves, I'd probably do the same.

Along with that, fiscal conservatism is a crock. They cut taxes(mostly for corporations) but don't adjust spending habits. Here's an (old) picture that illustrates what I mean: http://bethesignal.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/meet-john-mccain.jpg

I hate to make it seem like I'm jerking off the Democrats here, but the Republican party in this is just so damn stupid. In four years, if the Democratic candidate is a total flake, I'll speak out against them. In politics everything is situational and has to be judged by its own merits. There's no one policy that will work for everyone. I've always had a moderate mindset leaning slightly towards the liberal side. I can't pick a side to stay with though because I don't agree with the extremist ideals on both sides. The only reason I'll register for a party is so I can vote in the primaries.

This two party system is a joke. What kind of true democracy forces you to choose between only two groups? To save myself work, here's some things other people said. It's pretty much how I feel about the subject.

It's pretty difficult for a third party Candidate to win because for one, it's in the name: Third Party. So it's people who are running who don't want to be either Democrat or Republican. Democrats and Republicans are funded well while Third Party candidates are pretty much on their own. Then there's the whole feeling of "wasting a vote" when voting for a third party candidate, making it harder for them to win and solidifying that argument. Also, a lot of electoral rules are biased against third party candidates, such as not allowing them to be debates or trying to drop their names off ballots. This year is a pretty good example of that. Bob Barr got his named dropped off a few ballots because of being late sending them in, but Obama and McCain were late for Texas and they were allowed to send their in. I believe Barr is suing for that? I doubt anything will be done since it's "tradition".

The idea of voting Third Party being a waste of a vote is just the effect of the propoganda engine perpetuated by the Republican/Democratic Reich. You would be surprised at how much money is spent behind the scenes to silence the voices of other party candidates, especially when it comes to the debates. Since the debates have been controlled by the Republican/Democratic since 1988 when the League of Women Voter's decided to pull out, untold amount of money have been spent to insure that only Democrat and Republican candidates are heard on issues that only involve the companies sponsoring the events.

And a cute side-note, since the inception of the Committee of Presidential Debates in 1988, the company that has offered the most sponsorship money to the cause is Anheuser-Busch, the lovely chaps that bring us Budweiser beer. Ahh... Budweiser, the cause and solution of all of Lower-class America's marriage problems.

Yeah, you just have to understand that Democracy is 7 wolves and a sheep voting who has who for dinner. Even though the odds are against you, you shouldn't vote for yourself or not vote, vote for what you think should win instead and shares your views. Voting for the "lesser of two evils" = gay.

Hey, yeah, guess what my parents did with the financial stimulus package the government sent us?

Put it in their savings account.

You need to give people the faith that they will need to save less and therefore buy more,  giving people more money doesn't necessarily make them want to buy more.
